Christmas tree care after delivery.
1
Conduct a freshness test
Between your thumb and forefinger, grasp a branch and pull towards you, if your tree is fresh no more than 5-10 needles should come off in your hand. At Hilltop Christmas Tree Farms our trees are cut later, and to order, so our Christmas trees should arrive fresher than most when they are delivered to your door.
2
Keep your tree stored in a cool place
Hilltop Christmas Tree Farms recommend that once your tree has been delivered to you and before you display your tree, you want to keep it in a well ventilated, cool area, out of rain and wind. This will keep the tree at its freshest before displaying it in your home.
3
Make sure your have adequate water
Before you display your Hilltop Christmas tree in its stand make sure the stand can hold four liters (one gallon) of water as well as the tree stump.
4
Christmas tree preperation
Once your tree has been delivered and before you place your tree in its stand its always best to cut between 1-2 cm or 1/2 - 3/4 inch of the stump. This will allow the tree to take water better, the cut can be no more than 4 hours old otherwise it will start to close up again.
5
Water your Christmas tree with warm water!
At Hilltop Christmas Tree Farms we recommend that the first water you use to fill your tree stand should be warm, this allows the sap to move more freely around the tree.
6
Keep watering throughout
Most Christmas trees will need to be watered around twice a day so that the base of the tree never dries out, your tree will drink several liters for the first week or two.
8
Recycle
Your Hilltop Christmas tree is 100% recyclable and reusable, it makes excellent garden mulch and many municipalities offer a recycling service for used trees.
7
Use a tree disposal bag
All Hilltop Christmas Tree Farms we deliver not only a fresh Christmas tree to your door but it comes complete with its very own tree skirt/disposal bag. In January you can simply pull the bag up around the tree and dispose of the tree with little mess.
